By: Contributor(s): Publication details: Rio de Janeiro: IMPA, 2012.Description: video onlineSubject(s): Online resources:
Partial contents:
In 1965, T. J. Willmore conjectured that the integral of the square of the mean curvature of a torus immersed in Euclidean three-space is at least 2P2. In this talk we will discuss recent work, joint with Andre Neves (Imperial College, UK), in which we prove this conjecture. This is intended for a general audience.
